The NCC in India was formed in 1948 by legislation known as National Cadet Corps Act of 1948. The Act was passed on July 15 in 1948. National Cadet Corps can be described as the successor to the University Officers Training Corps (UOTC) which was established in 1942 by the British In 1942. British during 1942. In the years following World War II, the UOTC did not meet the standards established by the British. This led to the belief that better plans needed to be developed, which could aid more kids more effectively even during peacetime. A committee led by Pandit H.N. Kunzru proposed a cadet organization to be established within colleges and universities on a national scale. In 1948 the National Cadet Corps Act was passed by the Governor General and on the 15th of July in 1948 The National Cadet Corps came into existence.

In the wars of 1965 and 1971 in the conflict between United States and Pakistan, NCC Cadets served as the second defense. They organized camps to assist the factories that made ordinance and also supplied weapons and ammunition at the front. They also were used as patrol groups to crush enemy paratroopers. The NCC Cadets also cooperated together with Civil Defence authorities and actively participated in rescue operations as well as traffic management. After the 1965 and the 1971 Indo-Pak wars , the NCC syllabus was revised. Instead of serving as a secondary line of defence NCC syllabus was able to place more emphasis on the development of leadership and officer-like attributes. The military-related education that NCC students received was cut back and more importance was placed on other areas , such as social service and youth-management.
